    Dry Needling in Coffs Harbour

Dry needling uses fine, sterile acupuncture-style needles to release muscular trigger points and reduce pain. At Tidal Motion, we use it as one tool in a broader physiotherapy plan — never as a stand-alone treatment, and always where clinically indicated.

Trigger points are tight, tender spots inside a muscle that can refer pain elsewhere. Dry needling deactivates them, restores normal muscle length, and reduces protective muscle tension so we can restore movement more easily in the same session.

It's especially effective for chronic neck and upper back tension, calf tightness in runners, glute-related lower back pain, shoulder issues and forearm/elbow pain — but its usefulness varies patient to patient, and we'll always tell you upfront if we don't think it will help.

    How we work with you

    1. 1

      Assessment

We identify the muscles driving your symptoms and confirm needling is the right approach.

    2. 2

      Treatment

Fine needles inserted into trigger points. Some produce a brief twitch response — this is normal and generally desirable.

    3. 3

      Post-treatment mobility

Immediate movement and stretching to consolidate the release.

    4. 4

      Strengthening

Home exercises so the trigger point doesn't come back. Needling without strengthening rarely lasts.

    Funding & rebates

Dry needling is billed as part of a standard physiotherapy consultation and is claimable through private health extras, NDIS, DVA, Medicare CDM and workers compensation.
